Day Trip Itinerary: Chalkida – Ano Doliana

Departure from Chalkida at 6:50 AM, heading towards Arcadia and the famous Chestnut Festival. We will make an intermediate stop for coffee and a short break before continuing our journey to the picturesque village of Ano Doliana.

Located on the slopes of Mount Parnon, Ano Doliana is an amphitheatrically built mountain village at an altitude of approximately 1,000 metres. It is a charming stone-built settlement featuring traditional architecture, picturesque cobblestone paths, and a landscape surrounded mainly by chestnut forests, plane trees, and firs.

We will have the opportunity to take part in the Chestnut Festival, organized by the local village association every first weekend of November, following the completion of the annual chestnut harvest.

We will have approximately 2.5 hours of free time to enjoy a coffee, discover local products, and explore some of the village’s main attractions, including the Christofili House, a historic house and museum where Nikitaras and his men took refuge during the Greek War of Independence. The site became known as “Nikitaras’ Stronghold.”

We then continue to the beautiful mountain village of Agios Petros, where the impressive Tower of Aga (Trikalitis) stands prominently. This fortified tower house dates back to the 18th century. The village square is also home to the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, an impressive fountain dating back to 1769, and the old traditional school.

Following our tour, we will have free time for lunch at one of the traditional local tavernas, at our own expense.

Finally, after a full day filled with beautiful experiences, we begin our return journey to Chalkida, with an intermediate stop along the way for coffee and a short break.
