Crete: The generous "soul" of the Mediterranean!
Excursion Itinerary
We depart at 6:30 PM from our city, heading to the port of Piraeus to board the ship that will take us at night to Heraklion, Crete. Our arrival on the island will be at 6:30am in the morning.
After disembarking from the ship, we will have the opportunity to drink our morning coffee in Heraklion, Crete. In the southern part of the Aegean, a mysterious, warm, pure, and generous island holds within it the entire "soul" of Greece. Crete has a way of enchanting you. It captivates and ensnares the senses with its impressive and majestic landscape, as well as its spirit, history, and people. During our arrival, a first stroll is worth dedicating some time to a walk in the Old Town. Starting from the Lions' Square with the Morozini fountain, one of the city's favorite spots. The walk is complemented by the Koules Fortress and the Venetian Walls. Free time for a tour and lunch. Check-in at the hotel and rest. In the evening, we attend the funeral of the Epitaph in a magical atmosphere, with the meeting of all the Epitaphs in the heart of the old town, next to the Lions. Return to the hotel and enjoy our dinner. Overnight stay.
After breakfast, we board the bus and head to the archaeological site of Knossos, the most important center of Minoan civilization. According to tradition, it was the seat of King Minos. The palace is associated with the fascinating myths of the Labyrinth with the Minotaur and Daedalus with Icarus. Free time for a tour. Then we board the bus and head to Anogeia and the house of Nikos Xylouris. The central square is home to the house of the most famous lyre player on the island. The house-museum is essentially a small room with relics and photos of him. We stay for lunch and return to the hotel. In the afternoon, we renew our appointment to be transported to the island's hidden paradise, Lasithi. With exotic and unrealistically beautiful landscapes, both picturesque and cosmopolitan, with famous facades and well-guarded secrets. Agios Nikolaos is the capital dominated by the aquatic element.
Here we will watch the Resurrection service and the burning of Judas, one of the most impressive customs. Return to the hotel and enjoy the Resurrection dinner. Overnight stay.
After breakfast, we will have free time until we enjoy the roasted lamb and the delicacies of the Easter meal at a traditional tavern in the area. In the afternoon, we will all gather to visit Chania. The city is divided into two parts, the old and the new outside the walls. The old town of Chania is the jewel of the area with the Venetian harbor and the Egyptian Lighthouse. Walk along the harbor and the Fortress of Firka at its entrance and visit the Naval Museum. Among the Venetian mansions and the cobbled streets, you will see the Yali Mosque and the Venetian Shipyards, the Syntrivani Square, the old Turkish neighborhood of Splanzia, the Jewish quarter of Ovria and the Christian Topana with impressive buildings. Discover the... Free time for sightseeing and lunch. Return to the hotel and overnight.
After we have our breakfast and have collected our luggage, we head to Rethymno, a picturesque and romantic city with unique cultural interest. Walk along the Venetian harbor with the old lighthouse, get lost in the alleys with the old houses, admire the intricate doorways and the Venetian coats of arms that adorn them. Free time to explore the city and enjoy our lunch. We then head to Heraklion, Crete for a final stroll and perhaps a sweet treat or a cup of coffee before boarding the ship to return to our city. Arrival at the port of Piraeus on Tuesday at 06:30am.
